Myra Bairstow is an author, art curator and playwright. She served as the co-author and director of the Manierre Dawson Catalogue Raisonné in collaboration with The Hollis Taggart Galleries. Her exhibitions with the Taggart Galleries include “Manierre Dawson: American Pioneer of Abstract Art” (New York), “Manierre Dawson: New Revelations” (Chicago) and “Manierre Dawson: A Catalogue Raisonné” (New York).

Frida Kahlo’s Famous Painting: “El Suicidio de Dorothy Hale”
In addition to Bairstow’s work on Dawson, she is one of the leading researchers on the famous Frida Kahlo painting titled “El Suicidio de Dorothy Hale” (Suicide of Dorothy Hale). When she began researching the painting over a decade ago, Bairstow unexpectedly found many contradictions about Dorothy Hale’s life and death.
Inaugural Lecture Hosted at Los Angeles County Museum of Art
On March 31, 2012, LACMA hosted the first of Bairstow’s speaking engagements on Frida Kahlo’s famous painting, “The Suicide of Dorothy Hale,” in conjunction with their special exhibit “In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States.” The lecture, titled “Frida Kahlo’s Portrait of Dorothy Hale: Dreams, Dramas and Revelations,” explored Hale’s relationship with Clare Boothe Luce and revealed never-before-seen documents, letters and photos. Bairstow also revealed shocking contradictions and inaccuracies regarding the life and death of Dorothy Hale.

The Rise of Dorothy Hale Stage Play
Enthralled and inspired by Frida Kahlo’s famous painting, Bairstow wrote a play titled “The Rise of Dorothy Hale” which premiered Off-Broadway at The St Luke’s Theatre in September 2007.
